Signak Paul (1863-1935) - French painter, the representative of neo-impressionism. Paul began his studying of Manet, Degas's works very early, especially Monet, whose technique influenced him a lot. At the beginning of his creative work he painted sights of the Parisian suburbs and urban stages, creating them mostly by means of vigorous impacts by a brush and separate imposing touch – “the Sight of Montmartre”, 1884 (the Museum the Carnival, Paris). In the spring of the same year «A Society of independent artists» was founded by Signak & other artists. It is revealed the similarity between the picturesque experiments of Signak and George Sera at the first exhibition of the Society. They developed in common methods of divisionism. Its principles were stated in Signak’s book which was published in 1899 – “From Ezhena Delacroix to Neo-impressionism’. Since 1908 and till the death Signak was the chairman of ‘’the independent artists Society’’.
