From ancient times there is a disk setting in the Our Lady’s picture, where there is Jesus Baby within the light of glory. This type of picture got a name “The Virgin Panagea the Great” (Panagea from gr.”Allsaint”). “Panagea the Great” is one of the most ancient Russian icons, has another name “Oranta Jaroslavskaya” (“Oranta” from lat.”the Praying”), because it was kept in Spasskiy cloister, Jaroslavl, before the transfer of it to the Tretjakov galary. This icon is believed to date from Old Russian Art. There is a hypothesis that the author of this icon is the first legendary Russian painter Alimpiy. At “Oranta Jaroslavskaya” Our Lady appears as the genuine sovereign of the world. Her image is majestic in its perfect beauty, like it is sculptured and full of sparkling light. Her figure is stately and slender, her hands are raised solemnly in praying and opened widely. It seems like they spread above the whole world. The golden disk shines hotly at her breast and there is the Baby within it. There are two other golden disks with pictures of Saint Archangels Michael and Gabriel, leaders of heaven archangel world, shining lightly. Their images, crowning the icon, are concentrated reverentially and turned up. “The Virgin Panagea the Great” from Jaroslavl is not only unique thank to its antiquity and artistic occasion, but also its direct reiterations didn’t keep, and its vexation is very rare in Old Russian Art.
