ROUSSEAU Henri (1844-1910) – French artist-primitive. His nickname “The Customs Officer Rousseau” - he’d been obliged by his working for the Parisian custom house. The self-educated artist, Rousseau began to paint at his forty, after his resignation. In 1885 he exhibited his copies of old masters’ paintings, had been made in Louvre by himself in a free Art Studio at Elisey fields. A year later he painted “The carnival evening”. In this painting there are some features of his future individual style: alternation of plans, placement of figures at the landscape’s background and carefully work under the all details of composition. Agni Publishing House (Samara, Russia), Nicholas Roerich Museum (New York) and Fine Arts Academy Gallery (Moscow, Russia) have published a unique album, dedicated to the pictorial heritage of Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947).
Will be available on the second volume of a unique publication dedicated to the works of Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947).
The album was released by the publishing house "Agni" (Samara), with active cooperation of the Nicholas Roerich Museum in New York, as well as the Moscow Gallery Fine Arts Academy and the St. Petersburg State Museum and Institute of the Roerich Family.
