Jan Steen (1626-1679)
– one of the most outstanding Dutch genrists of Baroque epoch. Steen’s studying. In 1671 he became a chairman of Leiden Art Guild. In instructive and genre paintings Steen recreates reality in the narrative anecdotic style, often by means of rough images. The same as at Breagel, behind all Steen’s images always the moral - instructive purposes could be seen. In the late creative work Steen has turned to the classical style, representing a society in interiors or in gardens and parks: the fascinated garden of manneristic (ìàíüåðèñòñêîé) painting again has come to life under his brush.
