Valentin Serov (1865, St. Petersburg — 1911, Moscow).
Valentin Serov was born in family of a well-known Russian composer. Nature has showered gifts on him. He could transmit very well as well as colour and a form. He also had good professional skills. When he was a child within several years he was taught by I.E. Repin; and since fifteen years he attended the Academy of Applied Arts. Here his teacher was P.P. Chistyakov. He became a well-known artist very quickly. Two works shown at an exhibition in 1888 "the Girl with Peaches" (a Portrait of V.S. Mamontova (1887)) and "the Girl covered by the Sun (a Portrait of M.J. Simonovich (1888)) had great success and were found as a new method in art. Nowadays both of them continue to be “pearls” of Russian Painting.
