Vernet Claude Joseph. The Storm. Fine art print A2

The cult of nature spread in the French society in the 2d half of the 18th century under the influence of the Renaissance ideas aroused considerable interest of both artists and art admirers to the landscape painting. Vernet, the landscape painter who represented mostly sea views, created the picture for one of the French collectioners. The dramatic motive of storm and wreck, the alarming notes of the colouring based on the meticulous play of gamma and contrasts of grey-green and brown-red shades add some romantic sense to the classic composition of the canvas.
