Vlaminck de Maurice. View of the Seine. Art print on canvas
Vlaminck was one of the leading landscape painters of the fauvist group. The passionate nature of the artist revealed itself in his earliest works already. The exhibition of Van Gogh’s pictures in 1901 strengthened Vlaminck’s inclination to emotional and expressive painting. He used large strokes of paint, pure colours and colour confrontations. Working at many pictures including the “View on the Seine” he squeezed the paint from the tubes right on the canvas. During the work on the picture Vlaminck with Derain hired a studio in Chatou, the suburb of Paris. This very place is depicted in the picture.
