Kramskoy Ivan. Unknown Lady. Fine art print A4
It, perhaps, most known Kramskoy’s work, most intriguing, remaining to this day misunderstood and unsolved. Having called the picture “Obscure”, clever Kramskoy fixed forever behind it a halation of mystery. The contemporaries literally were puzzled. Its image caused anxiety and alert, vague presentiment depressing and doubtful new - appearance of a type the woman who was not entered in a former system of values. “ It is not known: who is this lady, good or bad, but the whole epoch is in her ”, - stated some. Presently “Obscure” of Kramskoy became implementation aristocratism and society refinement. As if empress she raises above fog white cold city, passing in opened crew on Anichkova to the bridge. Her clouths — a hat “ Francisc”, trimmed by refined mild pens, “Swedish” gloves, sewed from a finest skin, coat “ Scoblev”, decorated by the sable fur and cyan satiny belts, coupling, golden bracelet — all this cool parts of a female costume 1880 , claiming on expensive elegance. However it did not mean a fitting to maximum light, faster on the contrary — the code of unwritten rules eliminated stringent following to a mode in maximum circles of the Russian society.
