This unique album is the first complete illustrated catalogue of the series of Mughal miniatures from the Babur-nameh manuscript in the collection of the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow). 114 colour plates are two-sided reproductions of the facsimile of 57 pages of the manuscript produced in India in the workshops of the emperor Akbar in the late 16th century. The reproductions are accompanied by the articles on the history of the collection, the biography of Babur — the founder of the Mughal dynasty, and on the contents of the Babur-nameh and its miniatures. The album is supplemented by a Russian translation of the text lines in the miniatures by P. Petrov, as well as the fragments of the text in the Babur-nameh translated by M.A. Salier, and a comparative table of the illustrated subjects in three most preserved manuscripts made in the 1590s at the court of Akbar.
