The book is devoted to a prominent Russian orientalist, Alexey Pozdneyev (1851-1920). He is one of the best specialists in Mongolian culture, the author of the Russian-Kalmyk dictionary and the owner of a rich collection of Buddhist sculpture and icons. The complete catalogue of works of sculpture from Pozdneyev's collection, and archive documents acquainting with his extraordinary life, are published for the first time. The text of the catalogue is accompanied by the photos of the works kept in the State Museum of Oriental Art and the Samara Art Museum. High-quality typography lets one better understand the iconography of the Buddhist pantheon, and the role of separate details in the determination of personages' functions.
The book will be interesting for those ones who are keen on Buddhism, especially Lamaism, and Buddhist art.
