Нестеров Михаил Mikhail Nesterov (1862-1942)
is a Russian painter, a craftsman of a lyrical landscape, a portraitist. Mikhail Nesterov attended the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1877-1881 and 1886-1886). Here he was taught by V.G. Perov and I.M. Pryanishnikov. He also attended the St. Petersburg Academy of Applied Arts (1881-1884). And here his teacher was P.P. Chistyakov. Having lived eighty years the artist embodied an alive connection of the epochs for many generations. During domination of Peredvizhniki aesthetics Nesterov was looking for himself in genre art and historical one. But by the end of the XIX century the artist turned to religious genre; he was attracted by ascetic monkshood severity, by beauty of orthodox ceremonies, by life in the consent with a nature.
