Conceived in 1868, the picture has demanded several years of the tight internal work. The finished work at once was acquired directly in workshop of the artist Pavel Tretyakov. " On mine, it is the best picture at our school lately ", - he wrote.
Introduced on the Second movable exhibition "Christ in desert " became sensation. Before a picture the ardent controversies inflamed, the audience searched for a certain latent sense in this by strong but hopelessly to lone figure, lost in fruitless immovable desert. Kramskoy it was possible to create the image of exclusive expressiveness equal, probably, most tragical pages of a history. The ascetism of colour and picturesque methods(receptions, acceptances) only boosts concentration on the moral party of the contents of product. The high-gravity spiritual experiences of the Christ, maybe, for the first time in Russian fine art cause(urge) to reflect on a problem of personal selection. In this steep drama already inaaccurance of waiting of the Christ and human capabilities initially opens.
" I see clear&, that there is one moment in life of each man, it is not enough created on the image and similarity of God whether to take behind the Sirs of the God rouble or to not succumb step to harm. All of us know, than is ordinary the similar oscillation - terminates the artist wrote.
