The painting is very popular with its amusing subject. However, the true value of its work of art is the great expressed state of nature. Here is shown a sunlight, struggling through the giants’ columns, but the dense forest. It feels here the gully depth and power of age-old trees. The sunlight feels like looking slightly in this dense forest. Romping little bears feel the approaching of the morning. We are observers for wild nature and its habitants. K.A.Savitsky prompted Shishkin the conception of painting. Savitsky painted bears. These bears appears in preparatory paintings and studies with some differences in attitudes and quantities (at the beginning there were two of them). Savitsky painted bears so well, that he signed the painting together with Shishkin. When Tretjakov bought this picture he remove Savitsky’s signature and kept Shishkin’s authorship.
