Reynolds Joshua (1723-1792) – English painter. He was the first among the English masters who studied in Italy, travelled across Holland, Flanders, Germany and France. Brilliant art education, excellent knowledge of the basic directions of the modern art allowed him connected freely to the different styles. Being the adherent of historical painting, having hopes for its future revival, he was compelled to obey an actual state of affairs: the unique genre using demand was the portrait. The type of the secular portrait, produced by Van Dike, was the standard for all portraitists serving inquiries of aristocracy. Reinolds was not conceded in elegance to the best secular portraitists, aspired at the same time to show character of model and to reflect her role in a society. All his life Reynolds much and willingly wrote children.
