Mengs Anton Rafael (1728-1779) – German painter and theorist of art. The brilliant rationalizer of a baroque and one of the founders of the neo-classic movement, Mengs had a reputation in due time as new Rafael. Intellectual sections of the society counted him greatest among the all living artists. However modern researchers criticize him, at times even refusing him in talent.
