“I’m working at an etude now depicting old thatched cottages with growing wheat and a blooming pea field in the foreground. You must like it”, wrote Van Gogh to his brother. Auvers fascinated the artist by the true country scenery. The thatched roofs remembered him his native Brabant. At the same time living in the south helped him, by his own words, to know the north better. I.A.Morozov bought the picture in 1908 at the auction in Druo hotel.
